Title: Compliance

Artist: Natália Junasová

Country: Slovakia

Natália Junasová is a young Slovak artist from Partizánske. Already in her childhood, you could notice a significant artistic talent and an extraordinary child’s imagination. In the years 2005 – 2010, she studied Applied Painting at the Dezider Kardoš Private Conservatory of Applied Art in Topoľčany, and then at the same school she completed training in the field of Promotional Art, manual processing of textiles.

Her paintings have a high degree of artistic abstraction, which she achieves with the help of outlines of simplified objects created mostly from linear strokes and expressive colors. In her works, according to her own words, she investigates microbiological relationships, the functioning of various phenomena in the world around him, she devotes herself to ancient cultures and their legacy while observing natural human curiosity. She does not shy away from examining the consumer society and social relations in it, and emotions in an elementary form. Her goal is to arouse reflection on serious questions using positive emotions.

Artist’s Vision:

I connect seemingly unconnected relationships and emotions with a kind of network into one positively perceived whole, because art is a gift to see the world through different eyes. Cinematography as a message is a mission for humanity. The thoughts and the story engage the person personally so that he can find the message and experience all the emotions that the creator has prepared for him.

The work I would like to create is Compliance with understanding for artistic impression. A work that displays film tapes that are in a constant cycle of positive emotions and connected by a kind of network into one positively perceived whole.

I process all my work in this way because connecting is my message to the world. I try to reflect in people an understanding of each other and the cycle of life, because cinematography, like the art of painting, has been a part of our lives since ages. It is a constant search for oneself.

The painting Compliance is setting the viewer’s mood into a dihotomy that makes one see more and watch closely. The superposition of two structures, on a first sight unrelated, is the main attraction point of the artwork.  The background is consisting of white and coloured vertical stripes (from which the yellow stands out) that almost from a non-retrogradable structure, its predictability being contradicted by the the two central stripes, red and green, which break the palindrome, and by the irregulars patterns reminding of trees nodes and thus, an immediate connection to natural heritage is realized. The foreground, the two old film tapes in motion, black and white with pink spots, transports the viewer into the magic world of film, treated here as a positive side of the world, “a constant cycle of positive emotions”  as the author herself states. The joy is felt, also the nostalgia, the vintage vibe that in a way that reminds me of touching story of Cinema Paradiso, a reference that will never cease to influence young artists everywhere. The theme of Heritage is strongly but also warmly sustained in this bidimensional work, the object is invested with powerful emotions connected and blended into a network of colourful intricate life. – Sabina Ulubeanu, curator
